It’s underway. 76 comments

Playoffs are all about heroes. Yesterday there were two in particular.

Jose Altuve for Houston and Trevor Bauer for Cleveland.

All Altuve did was become the tenth player in major league history to hit three home runs in a post-season game. MVP voting was due on the last day of the season. Altuve should win it, but a lot of shoulds never happen. Altuve is working on making sure he wins it in the playoffs.

In the other game, Trevor Bauer, the surprise starter of Game 1 made Terry Francona look like more of a genius than he already is. He held the Aaron Judge Yankees hitless for 5 1/3 innings, left with two outs in the seventh inning having given up just two hits, no runs.

The Astros and Indians go up 1-0 in their series. The playoffs are underway. Baseball is great.

      Voted for Altuve

      • possumrld

        Hamels hater! πŸ™‚

        • JacobMcCandles

Haha…..would vote for the Ranger cap, but this was about guys who actually did something of great value.

          • GoRangers23

Cole Hamels did a lot of good things. He did A LOT for military personnel ( I believe Wounded Warriors). Do you not consider that great?

          • JacobMcCandles

As a member of Wounded Warrior supporters along with DAV. and having served,,,of course I do, just not as much as Altuve did……both deserving.

          • possumrld

I figured so! But you know I could not resist doing that, Jake! πŸ™‚

While I’m a firm believer that a Mgr can impact a regular season game, not as much in post season. The very overrated Farrell comes back with another LH SP agst Houston who eats up LH pitchers. Gotta wonder sometimes.

    • dearmidol

I heard today that Pomeranz has been pretty good against the Astros, but I haven’t looked it up.

    • elkaba

Lol, non sequitur… You’re criticizing Farrell because he starts a LHP and in the same post saying mgrs don’t have as much impact in the playoffs. Which is it?

Hint: Baseball is a manager’s game regardless of when the game is being played. They alone place the pieces on the board and move them around at will.

      • JacobMcCandles

Sorry…should of dumbed it down for you….LOLA : ) Multiple points were made, not just one. Basically it comes down to post season comes down to the players and the mgr needs to basically get out of the way…..Drew may win, just not a smart move. Kind of like Banny not pitching Colby in the deciding game.

        • elkaba

LOL, you’re still wrong. It’s a manger’s sport. And no need to dumb things down. Just don’t contradict yourself in the same post next time. πŸ™‚

          • JacobMcCandles

A baby sleeps in a manger, and it is def not a managers sport……Astros 2-0 Jake out managing Farrell

          • elkaba

Ha! Thanks, I corrected it. But it’s a manager’s sport. (Don’t pat yourself on the back too hard. Anyone can out manage Farrell.)

          • JacobMcCandles

            Now we agree!!!

  • GoRangers23

Have there always been so many games on the same day, in the past? Four seems like an awful lot.

    • JacobMcCandles

Usually happens one time in post season early

  • JacobMcCandles

Just talked to the Flapper….she did a 3 hospital tour, had a stint put in and is at home resting! YIPPPPEEE

    • GoRangers23

Thanks for the info! I was really worried about her!

    • GoRangers23

What do you mean by 3 hospital tour?

      • JacobMcCandles

        Three different hospitals…..

        • GoRangers23

          Did she say why?

          • JacobMcCandles

Just texted…..did not want to grill her

          • GoRangers23

            Ok, thanks

    • elkaba

      Great!

  • JacobMcCandles

Our fav ump Angel Hernandez screws up again.

How he got a post season gig blows me away……at least West and Bucknor are not involved.

  • JacobMcCandles

    CORREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • JacobMcCandles

Angel is umpiring this game like its the Rangers.

  • Rowdy Yates

I’m thinking Raymond would fit in great with this FOX announcing crew. Said “with 2 on and no outs with 3-0 count that lball 4 call is often given to the pitcher (as a strike) by the ump to give him a chance to get back in the groove”. Wow … learn something new everyday.

    • GoRangers23

I don’t understand why one of them keeps saying that the players are making awkward catches, and awkward swing and a misses. I didn’t see anything awkward about the “awkward catch”. I guess he just likes saying awkward.

      • Rowdy Yates

        That’s what awkward announcers say.

        • GoRangers23

          πŸ˜„.

        • JacobMcCandles

          Awkward post

  • GoRangers23

AJ Pierzynski is one of the guys that are talking, but not the one that is doing most of the talking. I’m not sure who the main guy is.

  • JacobMcCandles

Perzynski is actually a pretty smart dude. Think he will do well.

    • JacobMcCandles

      What a BS stat

  • GoRangers23

The Red Sox are having pitcher woes just like we have had. Bless their hearts. We know exactly what that feels like.

    • JacobMcCandles

Woes are Astro hitters, best team in MLB on their WS march

  • Rowdy Yates

Good timing on Stros part. Now I can switch over to Indians/Yankees game.

    • JacobMcCandles

Yep best team is done…..time for the lesser ones

  • dearmidol

I never thought the Red Sox were that great to begin with.

    • JacobMcCandles

      Miss Papi big time

      • dearmidol

Sorry, but Mitch Moreland could not fill those shoes.

  • dearmidol

The Yankees coughed up the lead. 2-2 after one. Could be a really good game. Both teams have amazing bullpens.

  • Rowdy Yates

Rowdy’s got a big grin on his fact right now. Sometimes the baseball gods even enjoy messin’ with the Yankees.

  • GoRangers23

I’m glad they have Matt Vasgersian announcing some of these off-season games again. He does a really good job.

  • von_todwin

Wow, go Indians. If they can salvage a bad start from their ace, make a big-time comeback, and go up 2-0 in the process, I can’t imagine New York having much fight left in them. (hopefully not famous last words)

  • von_todwin

Also wow, a game (Cubs/Nats) where both pitchers are doing well–didn’t think that was allowed this year.

  • GoRangers23

Wow! Five hours and still going. Crazy! This isn’t going to be good for either team, I would imagine
    .

    • dearmidol

Great game. I love this stuff.

      • GoRangers23

Which team do you hope wins it?

        • GoRangers23

          Nevermind. πŸ˜„

          • dearmidol

I want the Indians to win. I picked the Yankees.

          • GoRangers23

Yes, I saw your post at the top as soon as I posted mine. They did it!

  • dearmidol

Leadoff walk. Please come back to haunt the Yankees.

  • dearmidol

    You have to bunt here.

  • dearmidol

They showed the umpire getting hit in the face only twelve times. That’s not enough. More replays please.

    • elkaba

No kidding. Just back from dinner. Can’t believe they’ve come back to win this one!

      • dearmidol

It’s amazing. One of the best games.

        • elkaba

Watched up to the end of the 8th and had to go to dinner. Can’t believe 5.5 hours!

          • dearmidol

Same here. We went to dinner it was 8-2. Then 8-7. Then 8-8. Got home in the bottom of the tenth.

  • GoRangers23

That was a really hard fought battle! You know those guys are exhausted.

  • elkaba

Should have pulled Betances while he had the chance. But I’m glad he didn’t!

    • dearmidol

The Yankees bullpen was their strength. It gave up seven runs.

      • elkaba

Where have I heard that before?

  • elkaba

Can’t believe all this good baseball in one day. I’d almost forgotten what good baseball looked like!

  • dearmidol

I just turned on the Cubs-Nationals game. Ryan Zimmerman swung and missed strike three, the ball was dropped, he ran to first, the throw hit him in the back, he was called out because he wasn’t in the running lane. Obvious. Nationals argued but there is no argument.

  • elkaba

Looks like LA is going to kill Az tonight.

    • JacobMcCandles

Give Kershaw time to blow it

  • JacobMcCandles

I dislike Pig more than Buttista,,,,,at least Buttista has earned the right to be a arse…..Pig is a Pig

    • possumrld

lol! And howz ’bout them ‘Stros tonight, Jake?!

      • JacobMcCandles

        WS march has begun….LOL

    • dearmidol

He had five amazing weeks when he came up.

  • WhoKnowscs

I imagine after last years ratings They’re wanting an Indians – Cubs rematch for the WS.
