40-man: Demarcus Evans.

A continuing look at the Rangers 40-man roster.

DEMARCUS EVANS
Age: 24
Right-Handed Pitcher

You’ve got to love a guy nicknamed the D-Train.

Demarcus Evans showed up on the farm system radar for good in 2018. He struck out 103 hitters in 56 innings in Low-A, putting up an impressive 1.77 ERA, with a fastball that regularly hit 96.

His 2018 earned him a promotion to High-A in 2019. He was totally dominating. In 22.1 innings, he struck out 40, with an ERA of 0.81. That earned him a mid-season promotion to Double-A Frisco, where he was just as dominating. His K/9 innings went down but his ERA was still under 1.00, at 0.96.

The Rangers twenty-fifth round draft pick in 2015, he popped up briefly with Texas in 2020, getting into four games, four innings, with four strikeouts, no walks, and a 2.25 ERA.

Evans gave up a home run to the first major league batter he faced. Albert Pujols. It was home run number 662 for Pujols. Then, Evans hit the next batter. But got out of the inning without any more runs scoring, and didn’t give up another run in 2020.

You have to think the D-Train will be stationed in Arlington in 2021, whether it’s opening day or at some point in the season. Dont’ be surprised if he ends up being the Rangers closer in the near future.
