40-man: Joely Rodriguez.

A continuing look at the Rangers 40-man roster.

JOELY RODRIGUEZ
Age: 29
Left-Handed Pitcher

The Domincan-born lefty was signed by Pittsburgh in 2009. He kicked around the Pirates organization for six seasons then was traded to the Phillies for the unfortunately-named Antonio Bastardo, then was traded to the Rangers in 2017 for cash.

He was released by the Rangers after the 2017 season, signed by Baltimore, made a free agent mid-way through 2018, signed with a Japanese team for the remainder of 2018, then was resigned by the Rangers in 2019.

He got into twelve games out of the Rangers bullpen in 2020, with an impressive ERA of 2.13. Both his four-seam fastball and his sinker sit at 95, giving him a high percentage of swings and misses with those two pitches.

Rodriguez has scratched and clawed his way to the major leagues and seems to have found a place coming out of the Rangers bullpen.

If he can duplicate his 2020 season in 2021, he would be a huge asset for the Rangers.
