As reported in the Dallas Morning News, right-handed reliever Eddie Butler rejected his assignment to the minor leagues and instead chose free agency. Butler was one of three players acquired from Chicago in the Cole Hamels deal.
His time in Texas wasn’t the stuff of highlight reels. In 32 innings, he allowed 57 baserunners and a 6.47 ERA.
The other two players the Rangers acquired are still in the system: Rollie Lacy, a 23-year-old right-handed pitchers, and Alexander Ovalles, an 18-year-old outfielder.
