There was a Joey Gallo sighting in Arizona, and that’s a really good thing.
The Rangers need Gallo in the lineup as much as possible in 2020. Gallo was on his way to a possible MVP consideration before injuries derailed him and what slim chances the Rangers had for relevance.
Every swing is a potential home run. When you have someone as dangerous as that in the lineup, it makes a difference. Without it, pitchers have nobody to fear.
Where he really made strides last season was drawing walks. His on-base percentage jumped more than seventy points, to .387.
A guy with that kind of power and a .387 OBP is a dangerous hitter.
Yesterday, Gallo doubled in three at-bats. Sure, he struck out the other two. But that’s what he does.
As long as he’s in the lineup and able to strike out twice a game, he is able to connect extra-base hits twice a game.
The Rangers need that. Joey Gallo is their MVP before he even plays a game this season. Texas goes as far as he goes.
