Nil-nil.

The Rangers and Giants held a spring training game yesterday and a soccer match broke out.

After nine innings, neither Texas or San Francisco could score a run in yesterday’s Cactus League game and the game ended like 99.87 percent of all soccer matches. Nil to nil.

Each team managed only three hits, all three singles for the Rangers, a double and two singles for the Giants.

The game had all the drama of soccer. There were players running on and off the field. Players jogging down the first base line. Players running to catch fly balls. There was a lot of running and absolutely nothing to show for it. Looking for something to do,—anything—the crowd began chanting U-S-A, U-S-A to spur on their heroes below who could not score.

The entire affair was boredom masquerading as sport.

Just like World Cup soccer.
