Ships passing.

The Rangers franchise has hit hard times while the Giants have hit it big.

They met in the 2010 World Series. But since then, they have had varying degrees of success.

The Rangers went to one more World Series, in 2011. They lost. The Giants won that one in 2010, then two more, in 2012 and 2014.

The Giants lost a Division Series in 2016. The Rangers lost one in 2015 and 2016.

Since then, neither team has had a ton of success.

In the four years since both teams lost their respective Division Series, Texas has had two last-place finishes and two third-place finishes. San Francisco has been slightly better. A fifth, a fourth, and two thirds.

But theirs has gone in that order. Every year having a better winning percentage than the season before. Texas’s winning percentage, on the other hand, keeps falling.

Which brings us to this year.

The Giants are in first place in the N.L. West. The Rangers are in last place in the A.L. West.

These franchises are like two ships passing in the night. One is headed for the shore. The other is headed for an iceberg.

Let’s hope the Rangers can right the ship some day soon. The Giants sure have.
