Top ten first basemen this year.

The list of Top Ten first baseman is out. As with the catcher list, there is no Ranger. Nathanial Lowe did not make it. But, it’s a pretty deep position. And it’s a subjective list.

Lowe had to suffer the indignation of being the only Ranger infielder not to make the All-Star team. But all he did was drive in 82 runs in 2023, and seem to get the really big hit when it was really needed.

Lowe is an asset at first. In fact, he played 161 games there last year. Mainly because the Rangers don’t have another first baseman. That’s job security.

Number 8 on the list is Brandon Belt, a free agent and a first baseman. The Rangers are rumored to be interested in Belt, probably as the DH, but also to give Lowe a break.

Here is the list, with last year’s ranking in parenthesis.

  1. Freddie Freeman, LAD (Last year: 2)
  2. Bryce Harper, PHI (No. 3 RF)
  3. Matt Olson, ATL (6)
  4. Paul Goldschmidt, STL (1)
  5. Yandy Díaz, TB (NR)
  6. Pete Alonso, NYM (5)
  7. Vladimir Guerrero Jr., TOR (3)
  8. Brandon Belt, FA (NR)
  9. Christian Walker, AZ (NR)
  10. Triston Casas, BOS (NR)
