A continuing look at the Rangers 40-man roster.
You’ve got to love a switch-hitting catcher.
Texas signed David Garcia out of Venezuela in 2016 when he was just sixteen. He struggled in his first season in the Dominican Summer League, but took a good step forward the next season in the Arizona Rookie League, and an even bigger step again in 2019, driving in 29 runs in 48 games, with a .277 average.
He’s still young and developing and was not helped by missing an entire season in 2020. The Rangers need him to get a full season of being the frontline catcher to see how durable he is, and how his defensive skills advance.
David Garcia will not be in Arlington in 2021 but there’s a good chance he will be there eventually.
