And the nominees are…

The finalists for Rookie of the Year, Manager of the Year, Cy Young, and Most Valuable Player were announced yesterday. The winners will be announced next week.

In totally unsurprising news, not a single Ranger was to be found anywhere.

MVP
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto.
Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles.
Marcus Semien, Toronto.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Bryce Harper, Philadelphia.
Juan Soto, Washington.
Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego.

Predicted winners: Shoehi Ohtani, Juan Soto. Ohtani can do it all—hit for average, hit for power, run, and pitch. Soto is just a lucky stab as any of the three candidates could win it.

CY YOUNG
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Gerrit Cole, New York.
Lance Lynn, Chicago.
Robbie Ray, Toronto.

NATIONAL LEAGUE.
Corbin Burnes, Milwaukee.
Max Scherzer, Washington/Los Angeles.
Zack Wheeler, Philadelphia.

Predicted winners: Gerrit Cole, because New York. Corbin Burnes because he had the lowest ERA in all of baseball, highest strikeout ratio and best walk-to-strikeout ratio.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Randy Arozarena, Tampa Bay.
Wander Franco, Tampa Bay.
Luis Garcia, Houston.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Dylan Carlson, St Louis.
Jonathan India, Cincinnati.
Trevor Rogers, Florida.

Predicted winners: Interesting to note that Adolis Garcia wasn’t on this list. He had one monster May in which he was a one-man highlight show, then cooled off considerably. Wander Franco, the youngest player in the major leagues in 2021, wins it along with Jonathan India, an on-base-percentage machine.

MANAGER OF THE YEAR
AMERICAN LEAGUE
Dusty Baker, Houston.
Kevin Cash, Tampa Bay.
Scott Servais, Seattle.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
Craig Counsell, Milwaukee.
Gabe Kapler, San Francisco.
Mike Shildt, St Louis.

Predicted winners: Servais will win it because the Mariners were in it until the final day of the season but Dusty Baker should win it because he has been the perfect choice to lead Houston after their cheating scandal. Let’s hope Mike Shildt wins it for the Cardinals. He was promptly fired once one of his decisions went against what the general manager wanted to do.
