Choo was the guy but he’s more fragile than a Hollywood ego.

Profar wasn’t the guy.

Desmond is better batting second.

Odor wasn’t right for the job.

Mazara wasn’t doing the job.

The team without a leadoff hitter may have just found one in Carlos Gomez. Finally.

Maybe it was a fluke, a one-night stand. Or maybe he does, indeed, end up being the guy. But when you hit two home runs in your audition, you will get a call back.

He came to the Rangers with a .210 batting average, a boatload of strikeouts, and an on-base percentage of .272. In fifteen games as a Ranger before yesterday, his average is about the same, .213. His on-base percentage, however, is a respectable .327.

So maybe Carlos Gomez surprised everyone and won the leadoff role last night.

That would be huge.

Now all the Rangers need to do is find a bullpen.
