Finalists named.

The finalists have been named for the important awards for 2020. Not a single Ranger in sight. That’s not a surprise.

In the American League, the only surprise is Mike Trout’s name isn’t one of the three. The finalists are Jose Abreu of the White Sox, DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees and Jose Ramirez of the Indians.

In the National League it’s Mookie Betts of the Dodgers, Freddie Freeman of the Braves, and Manny Machado of the Padres.

My prediction is LeMahieu and Freeman.

For Cy Young, Lance Lynn had been a candidate for most of the season but petered out toward the end. The American League finalists are Shane Bieber of the Indians, Kenta Maeda of the Twins and Hyun Jin Ryu of the Blue Jays.

It’s Trevor Bauer of the Reds, Yu Darvish of the Cubs and Jacob deGrom of the Mets.

I predict it will be Bieber and Bauer.

The Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year finalists in the A.L. are Christian Javier of the Astros, Kyle Lewis of the Mariners and Luis Robert of the White Sox.

In the NL it’s Alec Bohm of the Phillies, Jake Cronenworth of the Padres and Devon Williams of the Brewers.

Chalk this up to Robert and Bohm.

And the final finalists named last night were for Manager of the Year.

Kevin Cash of the Rays (the award was voted on before the World Series blunder), Charlie Montoya of the Blue Jays, and the since-fired Rick Renteria of the White Sox.

The three finalists in the N.L. are Don Mattingly of the Marlins, David Ross of the Cubs and Jayce Tingler of the Padres.

It would be all sorts of good if Rick Renteria won it in the A.L. but that will most likely be Kevin Cash, which will make the award stick out like a sore thumb.

In the N.L., you have to think it will be Don Mattingly, who took a joke of a team into the second round of the playoffs.

The winners for each category will be announced mid-November.
