The first-ever Players Weekend is upon us. Concocted by the Players Association in conjunction with the Commissioner’s Office, Players Weekend was conceived to help MLB connect with younger fans, with uniforms that are designed to look more like Little League jerseys, and with each player having a nickname of his choosing (vetted, of course) on the back of his shirt and a patch on his sleeves honoring someone meaningful to their career.
Oh, and it’s more merchandise to sell.
So, it is in that spirit that RR3 proposes the first-ever Fans Weekend, where fans choose the nicknames to be worn on the backs of their team’s players’ jerseys. To get momentum behind the idea, I have come up with Fan Weekend nicknames for the Rangers. This should get it started.
