New Rangers General Manager Chris Young was on MLB Network Radio yesterday. He spoke about the huge hole the Rangers have on the left side of their infield.
They don’t have a bonafide third baseman. So, Young said, it’s going to be a competition between Elvis Andrus and Rougned Odor.
That is the very definition of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Take two guys who have shown they are no longer major league hitters and move them to a position where offense is even more important.
Young also said to expect prospects Sherten Apostel and Josh Jung to be in the competition for third, as well as newly acquired journeyman Charlie Culblerson.
As for right now, it appears the consensus is third base is Elvis Andrus’s and it’s up to others to knock him off that hill.
One thing is for sure. Adrian Beltre is sorely missed.
