A lot of the talk on the Rangers radio so far this spring has been on the high number of unearned runs the Rangers have given up so far.

This team is error prone.

But, it’s just spring. Spring stats don’t count. Spring is when they are practicing. Nothing to worry about right?

Wrong.

This isn’t an isolated incident.

The Rangers front office has abandoned defense. Not just in 2018, but this has been a trend since 2014. Or, since the Rangers started finishing in fourth with regularity.

Here is where the Rangers rank in errors the past four seasons.

2017: 108 errors.
5th most in MLB.
3rd most in the AL.
2nd most in the AL West (Oakland had 121).

2016: 97 errors.
11th most in MLB.
Tied for 2nd most in the AL.
Tied for most in the AL West.

2015: 119 errors.
3rd most in MLB.
2nd most in the AL.
2nd most in the AL West (Oakland had 126).

2014: 108 errors.
6th most in MLB
Tied for 4th most in the AL.
Tied for 2nd most in the AL West (Oakland had 111).

It’s too early to tell what will transpire in 2018, but a quick reading of the tea leaves indicates a lot of free runs given up this year as well.

Somewhere in Baseball Land Ron Washington is spinning in the grave of his own making.
