Two players accepted their team’ qualifying offer. Eight denied it.
Right-handed starter Jeremy Hellickson of the Phillies and second baseman Neil Walker of the Mets both accepted the qualifying offer of $17.2 million.
They are now off the free agent market.
The eight who denied their team’s qualifying offer were:
Jose Bautista, OF, Toronto
Yoenis Cespedes, OF, NY Mets
Ian Desmond, OF/SS, Texas
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B/OF, Toronto
Dexter Fowler, OF, Chicago Cubs
Kenley Jansen, RP, LA Dodgers
Mark Trumbo, OF/IB/DH, Baltimore
Justin Turner, 3B, LA Dodgers
Any team that signs these players gives up a draft pick to do so.
